Billy Ray Butler, 87, of Streetman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Fairfield.

He was born Jan. 9, 1937, in Bryson, to his father John Edward Butler and mother Mary Ester Butler. Bill Butler is proceeded in death by his siblings Margaret Maxwell, Mary Nell Butler, Martin Butler, John Joseph Butler, William Henry Butler, Wilbur Lee Butler, and Ann Butler, his daughter Kim Butler and grandson Jack St. Germain.

Billy Ray Butler is survived by his wife Brenda Baugh Butler, his sons Karl Butler, Elbert Keith Butler, and Kenneth Butler, and his daughter Kristie Butler, his three granddaughters Naomi Butler, Kali Butler, Kassidy Harris and husband Tucker Harris, grandsons Steven Klobucar, Dalton Butler, and Jared St. Germain and great grandsons Taylor Johnson and Kutter Harris. Billy Butler loved the outdoors and spent most of his time mowing, setting and checking hog traps, working in his shop, getting his hair cut every Wednesday, riding around town on his lawnmower, and helping everyone he could around town.

He was a man that if you knew him, you loved him. Bill could always make you laugh and knew that kindness went a long way.

He was a person that had many lifelong friends and loved them dearly. Bill also loved his family, and each person was an apple of his eye.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of kindness and sincerity that will not be forgotten. In the past, Bill was Mayor of Streetman and loved doing anything he could to help someone and make the town better anyway he could.

He was always involved in the Fourth of July Lawnmower Parade and would bring his pit to cook the town hotdogs. He enjoyed being a part of a small community and was a proud member of First Baptist Church of Streetman.

Bill Butler is a Navy Veteran and served for his country with pride and justice. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1957 after serving as a Carpenter Apprentice.

Pallbearers include Karl Butler, Elbert Keith Butler, Rusty Butler, Will Butler, Kraig Fitzpatrick, and Wesley Anding. Honorary Pallbearers include Rick Gunnels, Frenchie Lavaren, WR Morgan, Frank Upchurch, Dalton Butler, and Taylor Johnson. Bill’s favorite bible verse was “Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105.

Visitation was on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from noon to 1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life that began at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Ridge officiating.

Burial followed at Birdston Cemetery with military honors. Reception was held at Streetman First Baptist Church following the graveside.
