A shooting on South Bateman Street in Fairfield earlier today, March 18, has prompted local authorities to initiate a significant law enforcement response. Life-flight was called to the scene to transport victims to medical facilities, but the exact number of those injured or their condition has not been disclosed.
Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Fairfield ISD took precautionary measures by placing all of its campuses on a "secure" status. This procedure temporarily prevents anyone from leaving the school buildings while authorities continue to investigate the incident.
A text message was sent to parents and staff of Fairfield ISD around 3:10 p.m. to provide further information. The message read:
“[FISD] Parents and Staff, We were informed by local police about a shooting on South Bateman. All of our campuses are currently in ‘secure’ status. Our officers are stationed in front & will be monitoring dismissal closely. We have no reason to believe any of our campuses are in imminent danger.”
Parents of students were assured that all campuses remained secure while law enforcement agencies worked to investigate the situation. The "secure" status meant that students could not leave the buildings, but their safety remained the primary concern.
The shooting has brought heightened concern to the community, with residents hoping for quick updates and more information about the victims. As of now, local police have not released details regarding the suspect or a possible motive for the shooting.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation into the shooting.
No further official updates have been provided by local authorities as of this time.
