The Lord is always with us

One of the last promises that Jesus gave us before He ascended into heaven is found in the final verse of Matthew’s Gospel. He said, “And remember, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.”

One of the last promises that Jesus gave us before He ascended into heaven is found in the final verse of Matthew’s Gospel. He said, “And remember, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.”

Years ago, as a student at Baylor, I had the opportunity to travel with a group of Baylor students to Europe. We were under the care of a chaperone who was also our tour guide.

As we traveled through the different countries, we saw several famous sites, like the Eiffel Tower, the Mona Lisa, the Rivers of Venice, places I’ll probably never see again. It was definitely a once in a lifetime event.

When we arrived in Switzerland, we stayed near the Matterhorn. We were in Switzerland for three nights and normally I roomed with another student who was on the tour.

However, at this time, his family had also come over to Europe and since they were also staying in Switzerland, he went to stay a few nights with them.

So I was alone by myself in this free nation.

There were only four boys and about 12 girls so we each had a roommate when we stayed in a hotel. To make a long story short, the countries of Europe were more, how shall I say it, advanced in their public moral behavior than we, here in America, were at the time.

Today, however, America has well followed the suit of the European countries, but at that time, back in the 70’s, we still had some moral reserves when it came to public display, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. I knew that if I didn’t have some spiritual help, and have it quick, I was going to go on the wrong track!

It was nothing for their movies to have open nudity of both sexes, on the screen, and the lure was quite intoxing to this young 20-year-old kid!

Now, what I’m going to share with you is the Gospel Truth! It happened!

As I was preparing to go out, I prayed to God, “Lord, you know what’s out there, and you know that I know that I’m in trouble of falling to something I shouldn’t be seeing. So, somehow, in some way, please do something to show me that You hear my prayer and can keep me from falling.”

Now, folks, again, this is the Gospel truth! I’ll swear it upon a stack of Bibles!

When I came out of my shower, I turned on the radio, and on the radio was playing, in bag-pipes, mind you, “Amazing Grace”! Boy! Talk about answered prayer!

God came through when I needed Him the most, and I stayed spiritually and morally clean the rest of the evening, and for every other evening as well, as far as that goes. God hears and answers our prayers, just when we need Him the most!

King David, in Psalm 139:7-12, had some real questions for God, and God had some real answers for him! Listen to his questions and to God’s answers.

“Where can I go to escape your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol (meaning, “the place of the dead”), You are there. If I live at the eastern horizon or settle in the western limits, even there Your hand will lead me; Your right hand will hold on to me. If I say, ‘Surely darkness will hide me, and the light around me will become night, even the darkness is not dark to You.’ The night shines like the day; darkness and light are alike unto You.’” Folks, no matter where we are, in the deepest sea, on the highest mountain, in the air above, or down in the valley, it doesn’t matter to God. He knows where we are and He is ready to help us in the hour of our greatest need.

Do you think you have gone where God can’t find you? Well, I have good news for you. He is there before you ever get there to protect and guide you and lead you back to Him.

Will you call on Him today?
