July events include Momma Cakes, Ashley Lehman as the Grinch, the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Fairfield EMS.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church

Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located on 751 IH-45 South in Fairfield, is hosting the Children of Zion Conference from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 27-29.

Transportation will be provided for children who reside locally.

Jones Chapel Church

Jones Chapel Church will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the Fairfield City Park basketball courts.

There will be seven divisions - Incoming 4th-5th grade boys, Incoming 4th-5th grade girls, Incoming 6th-8th grade boys, Incoming 6th-8th grade girls, Incoming high school boys, Incoming high school girls, and Coed adult. Each co-ed adult team must have one male and one female sub.

NSDAR

The Jonathan Hardin Chapter, NSDAR, Inc. Sponsorship Group is fundraising to support Wreaths Across America, specifically to earn sponsorships for approximately 580 veterans’ wreaths to be placed at Driver, LaSalle, New Hope (Jewett), Salem, and Wortham/Blind Lemon Memorial Cemeteries on National Wreaths Across America Day – Saturday, Dec. 14.

The Chapter will have a Rummage Sale on June 15. We will be selling treasures from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

All proceeds will be used to sponsor wreaths for our veterans buried at the above locations.

We will have tables set up at the Fairfield Libraryparking lot located at 350 W. Main St.

We thank Gary Wiggins and the Fairfield Library for letting us use their parking lot for our sale.

Fort Boggy State Park

SATURDAY SIT DOWN WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT

Date: Saturday, June 15 Time: 10-11 a.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Pavilion Questions, comments, or suggestions for the park? Bring your mug for a cup of joe and a conversation with Fort Boggy Superintendent, JD Miller. He will get you up to date with all things Fort Boggy.

MEET THE MINNOWS

Date: Saturday, June 15 Time: 2–3 p.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Pavilion Get an up-close look at the organisms in Lake Sullivan. We will have a couple live wells set up at the pavilion. We may even catch a few other critters with the minnows.

READING WITH THE RANGER – TALES OF COYOTE THE TRICKSTER

Date: Friday, June 21 Time: 10–11 a.m. Audience: Kids 12 and under Meet at: The Gazebo Coyote is always getting into trouble. Ranger Heather will tell you a couple of these stories while we do a coyote craft.

MOON AND STAR PARTY

Date: Saturday, June 22 Time: 9:30–10:30 p.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Lake Not only is it the beginning of summer, but it is also the Strawberry Moon. We will have a couple of telescopes set up to view the full moon. Bring a chair or blanket to comfortably enjoy the night sky. Feel free to bring binoculars and/or your own telescope.

DUTCH OVEN BREAKFAST

Date: Saturday, June 29 Time: 9–10 a.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Gazebo Want to expand your camping skills to include cooking over a fire in a Dutch oven? Ranger Heather will demonstrate how to make biscuits and gravy.

CENTERVILLE FUNTIER DAY

Date: Thursday, July 4 Time: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: Centerville Town Square

Rangers from Fort Boggy will be joined by the Friends of Fort Boggy at a booth in the square. Stop by to cool off and win prizes. We will also have t-shirts for sale.

NIGHT HIKE

Date: Saturday, July 6 Time: 9:30–10:30 p.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Pavilion How well do you see at night? We will test your night vision and other senses to see how they differ at night. We will start out at the pavilion and take a leisurely ½ mile hike with many stops along the way.

THE BUZZ ABOUT BEES

Date: Saturday, July 13 Time: 10–11 a.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Gazebo Bees and other pollinators are responsible for one out every three bites of food we eat and are very important for a successful garden. Find out which type of bees pollinate more, and how we can make it easier for them. Supplies will be provided to make a bee hotel.

MOVIE NIGHT – THE INSPECTOR GENERAL

Date: Friday, July 19 Time: 8:30–10 p.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Pavilion A town’s corrupt officials think a fool is actually an investigator in disguise. This movie from 1949 stars Danny Kaye, Walter Slezak and Barbara Bates.

MEET THE MINNOWS

Date: Saturday, July 20 Time: 2–3 p.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Gazebo Get an up-close look at the organisms in Lake Sullivan. We will have a couple live wells set up at the pavilion. We may even catch a few other critters with the minnows.

ROPE MAKING

Date: Saturday, July 27 Time: 10-11 a.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Gazebo Learn how to make rope with a hook and a club on a small scale. We can then use the rope to make a couple of toys that the early settlers would have played with.

BACK TO SCHOOL FUN RUN

Date: Saturday, Aug. 3, Time: 10 a.m. – Noon Audience: Kids 12 and under Meet at: The Boat Launch Run or walk your way through the several obstacle courses throughout the park. Expect to get wet and dirty along the way.

MOVIE NIGHT – THE LITTLE PRINCESS

Date: Friday, Aug. 9 Time: 8:30– 10 p.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: The Pavilion A little girl is left by her father in an exclusive seminary for girls, when her father fights in the Second Boer War. Later, when he is presumed dead, she is forced to become a servant. This 1939 movie stars Shirley Temple, Richard Greene and Anita Louise.

THE PERSEIDS METEOR SHOWER

Date: Sunday, Aug. 11 Time: Midnight - 1 a.m. Audience: Guests staying overnight at the park Meet at: Day Use Area by the Lake

The Perseids are the most popular meteor shower as they peak on warm August nights. It will reach its maximum on Aug. 12-13, but we still should see between 50 – 75 meteors per hour in the middle of the night between Saturday and Sunday. Bring a blanket to lay under the stars.

KNOT TYING

Date: Saturday, Aug. 17 Time: 10–11 a.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: Gazebo Ranger Heather will teach you some knots that will help you complete a project. You will have a couple of projects to choose from.

Date: Saturday, Aug. 31 Time: 10–11 a.m. Audience: Everyone Meet at: Gazebo Learn about the birds at the park while you make a bird feeder to take home. Art supplies provided. Bring a recycle food container with lid.

First Baptist Church Donie

The First Baptist Church of Donie will sponsor a Fourth of July Community Picnic and Celebration on Thursday, July 4. The celebration will take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There will be a cookout, a water slide for the kids, games and music. The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs and join us as we celebrate our nation’s birthday.

First Baptist Church of Donie is located behind the fire station at 311 Worthy St.
