Russians over Democrats?

I saw in a crowd photo someone wearing a T shirt that said “we love Russians but hate Democrats”. The world has sure turned over in the last 50 years.

The world has sure turned over in the last 50 years. For half a century presidents of both parties, Democrats and Republicans, presided over the cold war utilizing the strategy of containment until the iron curtain collapsed.

I remember being taught to hide under your desk at school in case Russia launched a nuclear attack on the U.S. along with Kruschev’s speech at the U.N. where he said “we will bury you”. This statement has some validity as Russian warfare is based on the strategy of you can kill us until you run out of bullets. Casualties mean nothing to them as evidenced by over half million and still counting in Ukraine.

Watching the National Memorial Concert from Washington honoring those of our military that never came back from foreign wars makes it difficult how some people could consider Russia our friend and a major political party our enemy. Democracy has always been a loud, messy and chaotic form of government but as Churchill said “better than all the alternatives”.

Yet even in our most vehement disagreements, we generally knew the difference between domestic disputes and foreign enemies.
