Teague takes out Mexia in straight sets

The Teague Lady Lions volleyball team won in straight sets at Mexia Tuesday evening, 25-15, 25-16, 25-12. With the win, Teague's district record improves to 2-1.
Teague was dominant throughout. After a first set win of 25-15, Teague led by as many as 10 in the second set en route to a 25-16 win. In the third set, Teague rallied for the first seven points before Mexia got on the board. A kill by middle blocker Bethanah Owens padded Teague's set advantage to 9-1. Later on in the set, another Owens kill extended Teague's lead to 21-11. From there, the Lady Lions scored four of the next five points to close out the match.
Owens ended the match with a game-high 16 kills, and added two blocks and a pair of aces. Setter Ady Beaird posted a game-high 29 assists, and added 10 digs, two aces, and a kill. Libero Miley Steen made her presence felt defensively with 15 digs, and contributed offensively with a service ace. Outside hitter Kameryn Thompson produced a stat line of nine digs, eight kills, two aces, and a block. Outside hitter Jayci Phillips registered six kills and two digs. 
Afterward, Teague head coach Sarah Beaird said she is happy with the progress of the team to this point in the season.
"We are having some more kids that are executing. Our returners we kind of leading the pack in the beginning, and now we've got some other kids that have come off the bench and are doing a good job," Beaird said.
