The Teague Lions evened their district record with a 5719 Homecoming win against the Crockett Bulldogs.

Junior Jaden Cole put the Lions on the scoreboard first with a short touchdown run with 5 minutes, 36 seconds left in the first quarter, and Zak Leija connected to J’Kybryen Harris on the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Teague’s defense stifled the Bulldog offense, and on the Lions’ ensuing possession Ny’land Coaster plowed his way to the end zone with 58 seconds left in the first quarter. Leija added the twopoint conversion with a run to put the Lions ahead 16-0.

In the second quarter, senior Korey Silar scored on a short touchdown ru, putting Teague out in front by three touchdowns. The point-after failed, but the Lions led 22-0 with 7:15 to play in the first half.

The Lion defense continued to dominate the Crockett offense, setting the offense up in good field position. Cole was able to add his second touchdown run of the night to extend Teague’s lead. Alex Lopez kicked the extra point and the Lions led 29-0 with 3:07 left in the second quarter.

Crockett responded with its first touchdown.

However, the Lions were able to add to their big lead when Cole scored his third touchdown of the night just before halftime. Lopez added the extra point, and the Lions led 36-6 with 14 seconds left in the opening half.

After the halftime festivities, Leija found Harris on a 77yard touchdown pass to extend the Lions’ lead. Lopez’s extra point again was good to stretch Teague’s lead to 43-6 with 9:35 left in the third quarter.

Crockett responded with two touchdowns with 6:21 in the third quarter and another just before the fourth quarter started.

The offensive line has been a strength for this year’s team, and senior center Evan Gilbert scored on a 1-yard plunge with 10:05 left in the game with Lopez adding the extra point for a 50-19 lead in the final frame.

Junior Brayden Leija played outstanding on the defensive side of the ball and rounded out the scoring for the Lions on a touchdown run with Lopez adding the extra-point with 2:16 left in the fourth quarter.

Offensively, Zak Leija was a perfect 8-of-8 passing for 210 yards and a touchdown. He added 30 yards on 4 carries. Harris hauled in 5 catches for 172 yards and a touchdown.

On the ground, Coaster had 108 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown and Cole added 87 yards on 10 carries, scoring on three. Silar added 19 yards on 3 carries with a touchdown and added a catch for 17 yards as well.

Silar spearheaded the defense with 11 tackles, and Cole added 9 tackles to lead Teague de-fensively. Coaster, Brayden Leija, Colton Smith, Jacob Matthews, Lucky Jones, Tripp Egbert and Eli Gilbert all had solid performances as well, the coaches said.

Teague will travel to Palestine this Friday night, Oct. 25, to take on the Westwood Panthers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
