Last Monday morning was incredibly busy. A big “thank you” to Carol for distributing the blessing bags for Route 2; I took care of Route 1. On Tuesday and Wednesday, our dedicated Meals on Wheels drivers delivered non-perishable meals to our homebound clients to cover for the center’s closure on Thursday and Friday.
Additionally, I cannot express enough gratitude to our wonderful neighbor, Marsha Morgan, who surprised us with a generous supply of beautiful Christmas tablecloths for all the tables in our dining room at the senior center. She consistently shows up at the perfect time with exactly what we need, proving her generosity and thoughtfulness.
Tuesday morning, we indulged in our favorite breakfast menu, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It was delicious and truly hit the spot! After lunch, we celebrated November birthdays with homemade vanilla Blue Bell ice cream and an assortment of sugar and chocolate chip cookies, thanks to our Anonymous sponsor.
On Wednesday, our regular bingo event proceeded smoothly despite the rental of the center and kitchen that day. Our director, Stephanie Stephenson, stepped up magnificently. She provided divided paper plates, disposable drinking glasses, complete sets of disposable silverware, and all the food in convenient containers. Her efforts saved the day and made clean-up a breeze, allowing us to continue our Bingo program and finish on time for the next group’s event.
As Thanksgiving approached, we observed closure that Thursday and Friday. Dec. 7 marks the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, a time when I reflect on my dear friend, Heavy West, whose absence we all feel greatly. He loved his country and family and never met a stranger. During my eightplus years managing the senior center, I’ve been fortunate to forge memorable friendships, even with those who are no longer with us.
I trust everyone had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. Our area was blessed with good weather for travel, allowing children and families to enjoy the outdoors. I know many had their fill of football games! Please remember to pray for our men and women serving in the military, as well as those who have recently lost loved ones and their families.
It’s hard to believe that it’s already DECEMBER! Come visit us and bring a friend. We always have fresh coffee, tea, and hot chocolate waiting, along with a dining room full of fun, likable people.
Thank you, and God bless you all.
