Lions go 2-1 at Kiwanis Tourney

The Teague Lions basketball team was at Navarro College for the three-day Kiwanis Tournament, which started on Thursday, Dec. 26. They picked up two wins in three games.

In Thursday’s matchup, Teague won 56-37 over Axtell. Brayden Leija led Teague in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-20 shooting from the field. He also collected 12 rebounds and three assists. Zak Leija and Carter Stacks chipped in with 13 points apiece in the Lions victory.

Teague also came away with a 76-51 win in Friday’s contest against Dawson. Stacks was Teague’s leading scoring with 19 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field. He added five rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals for the Lions. Brayden Leija and Zak Leija added 13 and 12 points respectively.

In Saturday’s ballgame, Kerens defeated Teague 63-52. Up next, Teague plans to resume district play with a road matchup against the Mexia Blackcats on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Start time of that game is slated for 7 p.m.
