The City of Teague Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, Jan. 21, for their monthly meeting. Throughout the meeting, the board approved placing several street signs in town due to safety concerns. All board members were present except for Bridget Gauntt.
Deanna Gaskins addressed the board about Waco Street, which is the street she lives on. The street is paved, but it has a gravel section as well. She noted that Waco Street is only wide enough for one vehicle at a time, also saying vehicles go way too fast around the corner and something needs to be done to make it a safer road.
“It is just too dangerous,” Gaskins said. “I am here tonight asking you to please do something to make the street safer. Some drivers are going way too fast and someone is going to get hurt.”
After some discussion, the board approved placing “Caution: Children at Play” signs on the street to try to make vehicles go slower, especially around the curve.
The board also approved the installation of a stop sign for the intersection of Mimosa Lane and Live Oak Circle. According to Mayor James Monks, there has been more traffic through the neighborhood and vehicles are not coming to a stop before turning onto the main road.
The board approved amending the square footage section of the commercial and multi-family construction plan review and inspections on the annually adopted fee schedule.
A tiny home ordinance was approved. The ordinance goes hand-in-hand with the manufactured home ordinance.
A budget amendment ordinance was approved. There was only a $3,400 difference.
Alderman Place 2 Jerry Ballew praised the city for the small difference compared to past several years when spending was out of control.
The next City of Teague Board of Aldermen meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m.
