The Teague ISD school board was honored on Tuesday evening, Jan. 21, as part of School Board Appreciation Month. Signs, decorated and signed by students, hung around the boardroom, thanking the board for their dedication.

The TISD Board of Trustees include President Jeff Gonzales, Vice-President Debra Lawrence, Secretary Lovie Whyte, Trustee Brian Bowers, Trustee Vicki Dimiceli, Trustee Jason Hullum, and Trustee Justin Lee.

TISD Superintendent Chris Skinner recognized Megan Cockerham and Leslie Croft as Teachers of the Month, Melissa Smith and Luz Alvarado as Employees of the Month, and Crystal Adams as Administrator of the Month for the month of January.

The order of election and the notice of election for the May 3 Board of Trustees Election was approved. Applications must be filed by Feb. 14. Positions on the school board ballot include Place 2 Brian Bowers and Place 4 Jeff Gonzales. The board also approved the joint election agreement with Freestone County.

The board approved paying the current bills totaling $450,298.

The board approved the transportation rental fee of $50 per trip, plus fuel.

Skinner reported that Weston Kieschnick was in the district again recently and observed some of the teachers with administrators.

“Weston says that the culture at Teague ISD is great and he loves visiting TISD,” Skinner said. “He said that the environment and culture is at the top of the districts that he visits.”

Enrollment at Teague ISD is 1,215 students.

After an executive session, the board accepted the retirement of Lynne Kilman and Julie Paris, effective at the end of the school year. The board also approved Skinner’s evaluation and contract.
