Jesus provides precious words of assurance

Did you hear the story of the two lovers engaged to be married? One night the fiance got down on his knees and made the following commitment. “Honey, I love you. I really do! Why, I’d swim the widest ocean for you, I’d climb the highest mountain, I’d dig the deepest hole, all just for you. And I’ll be over next Friday night, that is, if it isn’t raining.” Would you call that “a fair weather commitment”? Sometimes we make those “fair weather commitments” to one another, don’t we? And sometimes we even make them unto God!

And sometimes we even make them unto God!

However, for my thoughts this week, I want to give you some words not only of commitment, but words of assurance that God has given unto us. They are found in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, the first chapter. Here is what He says. The first one reminds us of the blessings that we have received, the ones that come from God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, namely, that He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing that we need. You see, God doesn’t come behind in anything. When He gives, He gives! Kind of like putting your drinking glass under the fountain and turning on the water faucet and never turning it off! And like the Everyready battery, it keeps on working and working and working. The second reminds us that we have been “chosen by Him”. Ephesians 1:4, says, “We are chosen by Him, even before He made the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless
