The Mexia Blackcats basketball team moved to 10-0 in district play Monday, Feb. 3 by virtue of a resounding 88-55 win at Teague. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Friday, Jan. 31, but was postponed until Monday.
Mexia enjoyed a fast start and began the ballgame on an 11-2 run. The Blackcats trapping style of defense befuddled Teague ballhandlers in the backcourt and helped to create turnovers, which led to fastbreak opportunities for the Mexia offense.
Mexia guard Kelan Collins was very active with a number of transition buckets in the opening quarter for the Blackcats. Collins gave Mexia its first double-digit lead of the game at with a layup to make the score 15-4 in favor of Mexia. By then end of the quarter, Mexia enjoyed a 23-6 edge on the scoreboard.
