Lady Lions go 1-2 in Buffalo softball tourney

The Teague Lady Lions softball team traveled to Buffalo last week to compete at the Buffalo Tournament. The competition wrapped up on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Teague Lady Lions softball team traveled to Buffalo last week to compete at the Buffalo Tournament. The competition wrapped up on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Teague was defeated in four innings by Mildred 10-3 in their first game on Friday. In the day’s second matchup, the Lady Lions lost 11-3 to Blooming Grove in four innings. Teague notched its lone win of the tournament Saturday with a 12-5 triumph in three innings over Cayuga on Saturday. Teague collected seven hits compared to six for Cayuga. Andrea James was the winning pitcher. She allowed four earned runs on six hits and tallied nine strikeouts.

Offensively, Teague third baseman Marley Philpott went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles, three runs batted in, and three runs scored. Shortstop Mycah Newsom was 1-for-2 with a home run and three runs scored.

Teague was back in action Tuesday, Feb. 25 with a road contest at Dawson. Results from that game will be available in the next edition.
