The Teague High School Band won a Sweepstakes trophy at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest at Groesbeck High School on Wednesday, March 5.
The band earned a 1-21 in concert and straight ones in sight reading to win a Sweepstakes trophy.
“Proud is an understatement. These kids have worked super hard to bring a third consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Award back home to Teague,” THS Band Director Cory Hiles said. “They know the pressure and the expectation of achieving greatness. We talk about leaving a legacy and the impact we try to leave behind each year when this part of the UIL season comes around so these kids know in a sense what has to get done. I’m just very blessed and happy to have such great kids who want to continue to set a higher bar of expectation every year. I am very thankful for them as well as my staff. They make my life and job easier when we work together to achieve this goal.”
The contest consisted of playing three prepared/ rehearsed pieces of music for the concert portion in front of three judges. They then have to learn how to play a new piece of music never seen before and have only seven minutes to rehearse that piece of music and then perform that piece of music for three judges.
The Mighty Teague Lion Band was selected to perform at the 2025 UIL State Wind Ensemble Festival at the University of Texas at Austin on Saturday, May 3. The Teague High School Spring Concert will be held on Monday, April 7, at 6 p.m.
