Grayson Dancer, a senior at Teague High School, signed his letter of intent to play golf at Jacksonville College on Friday, Feb. 28.
“I am very excited to continue my golf career at Jacksonville College,” Dancer said. “I believe it will be a great start to my collegiate career.”
Dancer plans on studying and getting his Bachelor’s degree in business. After he graduates, he plans on starting real estate.
“I chose Jacksonville college because it is not too far from home and they offer all the things I am looking for in a college,” Dancer said. “The thing I am looking forward to the most at Jacksonville College is to improve my golf game and play in collegiate tournaments.”
Dancer started playing golf the summer of this eighth grade year.
“My golf career has been very bumpy to say the least, but it’s like that with any sport or goal you set your mind too. I started playing with a free set of clubs someone gave me; they were older clubs with graphite shafts. I will forever be grateful for them because they got me off my feet,” Dancer said. “During my golf career, I have learned patience and discipline. Golf has also played many mental games with me. Golf has been the greatest experience of my life and I will be forever blessed to say I have experienced the game.”
Dancer has placed in the top three at several golf tournaments, He has also qualifi ed for the 3A Regional Golf Tournament.
“I am beyond proud of Grayson for being able to accomplish one of his goals and to sign with Jacksonville College. He was able to come in his freshman year and be an asset to the team and has proven over the years that hard work and dedication is what it takes to step up and lead the team,” Coach Josh Ingram said. “Grayson is an outstanding student and it has been a pleasure watching him develop both as a young man and as a golfer. We still have our sights set high for this year and are hoping to make a run at the state level.”
At Teague High School, he is involved in basketball and golf. He also participates in community service doing trash pickups with the school.
Grayson’s hobbies are going outdoors to fish and hunt. He also enjoys playing basketball with his friends outside of school.
“But I mostly stick with golf,” Dancer said. “It’s my happy place.”
Grayson is the son of Russell and Selena Dancer.
“My family is very supportive of me. They have been with me through ups and downs. My parents have spent so much time and money on me even if I didn’t perform how I should have. I can never thank them enough for believing in me through all the trials and tribulations,” Dancer said. “To my brother Jakob Dancer, and my sister Alexis Dancer, they have supported me all throughout the way; every time I accomplished something they have been right there to congratulate me.”
