Jones, Nichols take fifth at Regionals

Teague High School sophomores Lucky Jones and Case Nichols brought home fifth place medals from the Regional Powerlifting Meet at West High School on Saturday, March 8.

Teague High School sophomores Lucky Jones and Case Nichols brought home fifth place medals from the Regional Powerlifting Meet at West High School on Saturday, March 8.

Jones placed fifth in the 242 class with a squat of 500 pounds, bench press of 330 pounds, and deadlift of 535 pounds for a total of 1,365 pounds.

Nichols garnered fifth place in the super heavyweight division with a squat of 500 pounds, bench press of 335 pounds, and deadlift of 405 pounds for a total of 1,240 pounds.

Junior Ny’land Coaster competed in the 220 class, but was disqualified from the meet.

There were a total of 140 lifters at the meet. Overall, Teague took eighteenth place out of 30 schools.

“I am extremely proud of these young men for the effort today. It was all three guys’ first time to compete at a Regional powerlifting meet,” Coach Jordan Hataway said on Saturday night. “They attacked it head first and set some new personal records in the process. I’m excited to see these young men grow and compete in the future.”
