What is a vocation? Oxford Languages - “A person’s employment or main occupation, especially regarded as particularly worthy and requiring great dedication.” Comes from the Latin word “vocare” which means “to call”. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone could find their true vocation and not just a job? Events such as our College and Career Showcase may just be the catalyst for our students’ journey to identifying their calling.
The staff and students of Wortham ISD would like to thank you for taking a day and spending it with us in the middle of Bulldog country! We are aware that being away from your regularly assigned duties can be a hardship in many cases and causes additional work for your co-workers while you are absent and on you upon your return. We sincerely appreciate you and your commitment to our students and our district. Mr. Hayes, Mrs. Langley, and I heard many of you remark about how we couldn’t have ordered a more perfect day weather wise. The 3 of us felt like yes, the weather was wonderful, but we couldn’t have assembled a better, more diverse group of dedicated exhibitors to share what a career in their chosen field would be like.
The teaching business is interesting, sometimes surprising, and often delivers a delayed reaction. You may not realize that you have made a connection or sparked an interest in a student for many years or may never know at all. Our goal is to provide exposure to all the wonderful colleges, institutions, careers, military branches, etc. and hopefully nudge them gently in the direction that will uncover their true calling. Your participation in our event enables us to provide exposure and insight into things that fall well outside the classroom walls.
It is our hope that you left feeling that it was a day well spent and will share a day with us next time. I can assure you there were many conversations, questions, and excitement the next day on our side.
“Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Some sources attribute this to Confucius, and others to Mark Twain. At the end of the day, who said it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that we, whether referring to Wortham ISD, or society in general, have done all we can do to provide the best education and guidance possible to our young people, by helping them find a career or vocation that will not only be enjoyable and well suited to them, but also one that can provide a good living and method of supporting themselves.
Thank you again for your support of our district,
