Spend time with the Lord because without him, we are nothing

It was a very busy week last week for me. I spent the week in Groesbeck covering the Limestone County Fair. It was a great week. I love taking pictures and capturing memories that will last a lifetime. Although I only got a couple of hours of sleep a night, I am ready to do it again next year. Thank you Limestone County for having me over for the third straight year to cover your county fair.

It is hard to believe that April is already here. There are only six and a half weeks of school left before summer will be here. STAAR testing will begin next week and will continue over the next several weeks. There will be many end of the year activities along with all of the end of the year testing.

This week’s Bible verse is James 1:2-4. It says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

In this life that we live on earth, there will be times that we will face trials of many kinds. We may be dealing with financial difficulties, stress of a job, family issues, sickness, or the loss of a loved one. These are just a few things that we may have to persevere through, but through them all, we need to be focused on Christ.

We need to spend time with the Lord daily, because without him, we are nothing. This world is not our home. I am reminded of the song “Who Am I” by Casting Crowns. Part of the lyrics are - “I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow. A wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind. Still You hear me when I’m calling Lord, you catch me when I’m falling.”

So often in life, we get caught up in chasing the things of this world. We want to have a nice home, a nice car, nice clothes, and money. None of that is bad. However, they should not be our priority. Our focus should be on Christ. This is something the Lord is working on me with every single day.

I want to provide for my family. However, I do not want to work my life away and buy things that will just sit and collect dust. When I pass away from this earth, I am not going to be able to take any of my worldly possessions with me.

It is extremely important for us to have a personal relationship with Christ and for us to share what he has done with us with others in our life. Without Christ, we are nothing.

My prayer for us this week is that we will spend time with the Lord daily because without him, we are nothing. Until next week, make him famous in all that you do!
