Shipley attends 150th anniversary of first meeting of Sheriff’s Assoc. Of Texas More than 60 Texas sheriffs gathered at the Navarro County Courthouse to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first meeting of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. The Sheriff’s Association first met on this same date in 1874 after it was called to order by Sul Ross, the sheriff of McLennan County at the time. The Sheriffs of Texas knew back then that communication and working together was going to be crucial and necessary in order to accomplish our common goal of serving and protecting the public. “Today, we are carrying on the open lines of communication across this state and our nation. We stand ready to answer the call and assist our fellow sheriffs and all law enforcement where needed,” Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley said. “I’m proud and blessed to be able to be in attendance with many of my friends and fellow Sheriffs.”
