Lady Lions take fifth in district track meet

The Teague Lady Lions placed fifth at the district track meet last Wednesday, April 2, behind Fairfield, Elkhart, Westwood, and Mexia, They defeated Groesbeck and Buffalo. 

In the top athletes division, Chloe Kuzmich grabbed fourth place with 20 points. 

Kuzmich grabbed the gold in the 1600m run with a time of 6:16.484. She also grabbed first place in the 3200m run with a time of 13:44.499. 

Hadley Vondra, Micah Newsom, Deja Franklin, and Á'Shaiya Jones ran the 4x100m relay in 51.395 for a fourth place finish. 

In the 4x200m relay, Vondra, Franklin, Newsom, and Jones took fourth with a time of 1:52.089. 

Marlie Philpott, Franklin, Newsome, and Jones grabbed fourth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:31.150. 

Jones took sixth place in the long jump contest with a distance of 14' 4½". 

The top four athletes in each event advanced to the Area Track Meet, which was held on Wednesday, April 9, in Fairfield. Competing at the Area Track Meet with District 20 was District 19 consisting of Cameron Yoe, Lexington, Little River Academy, Rockdale, Franklin, Rogers, and Thrall.
