The Wortham Police Department is proud to introduce the newest member of the department Robbie III, a Belgian Malinois trained in Narcotics detection. The police department was awarded a grant from the Charette Foundation for a Narcotics Detection K-9 and with the help of some local donations.
Officer Rowdy Miers attended 160 hour K-9 handler training at Kelis K-9s. Afterwards Officer Miers and Robbie III earned certification through the National Narcotics Detection Dog Assn.
Pictured are Robbie Gail Charette, President of the Charette Foundation and the Robbie Gail Charette Police Canine Support Program who presented Wortham PD with the certificate of ownership of Robbie III. Also pictured is Officer Miers and K-9 Robbie III.
After their first night on duty, after stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation Robbie III alerted on a vehicle where nearly 50 pounds of marijuana was located.
“We look forward to having Officer Miers and his partner Robbie III joining the battle to keep drugs off our streets,” Wortham PD said.
