Mason Edwards, a junior at Fairfield High School, was honored by being named to the LT Shining Light Team at Fellowship of Christian Athletes Victory Awards at the Ferrell Center in Waco on Sunday evening, April 27.
The LT Shining Star Team is named after NFL Hall of Famer, Waco’s own LaDainian Tomlinson. It recognizes six local athletes who have set themselves apart in academics, athletics, and spiritually.
One junior high, one high school, and one college male and female were selected to be on the team. Edwards was the only high school male chosen out of 96 high schools for the honor.
“Receiving the LT Shining Star Award means God is working in Fairfield,” Ed- wards said. “Not only do I give him the glory of this award, but I also credit him for my abilities to further his kingdom in Fairfield. I was blessed with an amazing FCA Huddle and coaches. I was blessed to lead Fields of Faith back in the fall. To get this award means so much to me, but it is more a testament to the work of God in Fairfield.”
Fairfield High School was also awarded the Victory Cup during the banquet.
“It is such a big honor,” Coach John Bachtel said. “This means that Fairfield has had a great year athletically and more importantly, we have a lot of kids who are putting Christ at the center of their lives.”
Robert McAdams was recognized for five years of service as the girls basketball character coach. McAdams has lived his entire life in Fairfield and has been married to his wife, Sandra, for over 48 years.
“The young athletes are special to me through FCA,” McAdams said. “I get to meet these kids and pray with them. It has been a special five years. Over the years, the girls stay in touch with me. I love to see young people excited about God. I get to meet other kids through camps and victory bowls. God has blessed me so much through FCA.”
This summer Addison Bailes will compete in cheerleading, Justus Savage football, Jimilyah Nash basketball, and Jaci Abram basketball. Fairfield’s Coach Dalton Tharp will be coaching the blue baseball team as well.
“I am very proud of Fairfi eld High School for winning the Victory Cup as the top school in the big division 3A-6A in the Heart of Texas FCA area. They beat 35 other area high schools,” Freestone County Fellowship of Christian Athlete Representative Joey Worley said. “Points were awarded for athletic teams success (boys and girls) as well as for FCA huddle, coaches huddle, students attending FCA captains camps, and hosting Fields of Faith. So athletically they excelled and they excelled in the FCA areas. This is all because of great leadership by Athletic Director John Bachtel and great student leadership led by Mason Edwards.”
