Teague ISD is preparing for the new 2025-2026 school year as the TISD school board accepted resignations and approved employment of some new employees at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 22.
After an executive session, the board approved the resignations of Misty Duke-Morrow, Roger Leija, Heatherly Smith, Mikel Collins, Scott Eastland, Kensey Tucker, and Adrian Little.
The board approved the employment of Dax Linscomb, Lisa Van, Brittney Wiggins, Valerie Lara, and Davin Davis.
Hiring authority was given to TISD Superintendent Chris Skinner from May to August to make sure the district is able to hire the staff needed for the upcoming school year without having to wait for the monthly board meeting.
Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Emily Evans took the first look at the 2025-2026 budget with the board of trustees as well.
The board approved paying the current bills totaling $353,573.06.
Cheryl Ticker was approved as the superintendent designee/alternate for approving state requests for access to one or more TEA web applications accessed through the TEA login (TEAL).
The board approved the TEKS certification for the 2025-2026 school year. According to TISD Chief Academic Officer Crystal Adams, the district’s main focus for curriculum and alignment is the TEKS Resource System.
The TISD Teaching Incentive Allotment (TIA) Spending Plan, which outlines how TISD will allocate and distribute funds received through the TIA program, as mandated by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), was approved by the board.
Ninety percent of the TIA funds are distributed directly to the teachers as 10 percent of TIA funds are retained by the district to support the TIA program implementation. The district’s 10 percent retained funds are used for costs related to program administration, teacher training, assessment tools, professional development, and compensation for staff involved in TIA activities.
Teachers receive their allotment in June. The payout is eligible for Teacher Retirement System (TRS) benefits and is subject to applicable taxes and fees. The designation and payout are for five years.
Retiring teachers who meet all requirements receive the payout as scheduled. Teachers who resign before payout do not receive the funds.
For this school year, Teague ISD awarded $768,308 in TIA funds to 46 out of 87 TISD teachers.
