Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring the men and women who have given their lives in service to their country in the U.S. military. This day was borne out of the Civil War — a day decorating the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers.
In December 2000, a resolution was passed for a “National Moment of Remembrance,” that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of Remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.”
A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the Veteran’s Remembrance Park Teague on May 26. We will remember and honor our local heroes who served in wars and conflicts and lost their lives in service to our country, and ultimately for our freedoms. They must be commemorated.
