Addison Posey, Na’Kayla Conner, Kaylee Williams, and Blayke Brackens ran the 4x100m relay in a time of 48.51 to bring home third place from the 3A State Track Meet in Austin on Thursday, May 1.
“Our 4x100 relay team’s third place win was big,” Coach Randy Barger said. “We had several different athletes run on it throughout the year for different reasons. That is difficult with developing timing with handoffs and exchange zones distances, but when it came time to complete they stepped up and did a great job. They were somewhat disappointed in not winning first, but schools all over the state would have loved to have been third. Our kids have put expectations on themselves and it hurts them not to achieve them but that’s a great problem to have. We had two seniors on the relay team which were Na’Kayla Conner and Addison Posey. Conner has been on our relay teams for four years now and for Posey it was her first time and it was a great accomplishment for her. For Kaylee Williams, it was her first time to be on relays this year because she’s been running hurdles. Blayke Brackens stepped up and ran our anchor leg and did a great job as she got faster during the year. Overall, a great race at state and a great bronze medal win.”
Gladewater won the gold with a time of 47.66 and Texarkana Liberty-Eylau took the silver with a 47.80. Fairfield defeated Goliad (48.59), Wall (48.80), Universal City Randoph (48.82), Grandview (48.88), and Atlanta (49.05). Tuscola Jim Ned did not finish the race.
Conner also competed in the 100m dash where she placed fifth overall with a time of 12.02. Taylor Nunez from Universal City Randolph, the winner of the race, ran a 11.22.
