Crazy or Crazy Like a Fox?
After these first months of the President’s new administration, I am like many Americans, pleased, surprised, sometimes bewildered by some of President Trump’s decisions/ actions. I conclude that he is either (1) playing a long game with our allies and our enemies, or (2) he speaks and behaves extemporaneously, which if the case, could be very dangerous. I hope and truly believe that he does know what he is doing: fixed the border, confronted old allies about their “free ride” protected by U.S. military power without even trying to pay a fair share of their individual national defense costs, etc. Illegal border crossings are a tiny fraction of their former surge, and England, Germany, France, and Japan are finally, presently expanding their defense capabilities. The current tariff crisis will either correct the balance of trade more in our favor, or it won’t; the jury is still out on this issue. I believe, however, Mr. Trump is seriously in error with his Ukrainian arms policy.
The Democratic party, the liberal leftist media, academe, and west coast oligarchs – all of whom comprise their leadership — represent perfectly the defining distinction between Democrats and conservatives. With special thanks to P.J. O’Rourke, he humorously defines the chasm between them: “I have come to one important conclusion about national politics, and that is that God must be a Republican, and Santa Claus is a Democrat. God is elderly or at least late middle aged, is stern and rather more patriarchal than paternal; He is a firm believer in rules and regulations. He holds people responsible for their actions. He may have slight apparent concern for the well-being of the disadvantaged. He is politically connected, socially powerful, and holds the mortgage on everything in the world. God can be difficult to understand, unsentimental. It is extremely diffi cult to get into God’s country club.
