Wortham City Council Approves 2 Celebrations

The Wortham City Council approved blocking off downtown for a July 4th parade and for the 2025 Blues Festival at its meeting Tuesday, July 10.

The July 4th event will include post-parade festivities with vendor booths, and the Blues Festival will feature multiple bands playing for an audience of hundreds Saturday, Sept. 13. The council also approved waiving the alcohol prohibition ordinance for the music festival.

The music festival, which began in 1997, was cancelled by the Wortham Area Chamber of Commerce last year due to security concerns because of the sudden retirement of longtime Chief of Police Kelly Butler.
