My opinions are of little consequence when it comes to observations upon the global political scales or the responses of regimes. But, as a Pastor and a man of God, there does come a time when I feel compelled to voice an opinion if only to provide a perspective that I feel is lacking. I do not expect this particular devotional to change the hearts and minds of others, but I do hope that it brings the essence of God’s peace and wisdom to a chaotic and violent situation.
Like many of you, my heart was full of varying emotions when I learned of the U.S.’s involvement in the bombing of nuclear targets in Iran. Do I believe that Iran should possess nuclear weapons? Absolutely not! Do I think that ANYONE should possess nuclear weapons? Again, absolutely not! Such instruments of death and destruction are an affront and abomination to the witness and presence of almighty God. Anyone who feels that there is anything “Christian” about such weaponry has very little contact with the Words of Jesus. Do I think that the people of Israel have a right to live and exist in peace? Of course! In the same way, I also believe the nations around Israel have a right to live and exist in peace.
Which seems like a catch-22.
