The Freestone County Commissioners Court has approved an extension of the Local State of Disaster originally declared on June 13, 2025, in response to severe weather events that began on May 28 and have continued since.
The initial declaration, issued by the County Judge and filed with the County Clerk, was prompted by widespread damage across the county due to heavy rainfall, flash flooding, river flooding, large hail, and hazardous wind gusts.
Under Texas Government Code Chapter 418.108, such declarations automatically expire after seven days unless extended by the Commissioners Court. During its meeting on July 8, 2025, the court voted 4–0 to extend the disaster declaration for an additional 90 days.
