The Freestone County Commissioners Court began discussing the 2025-2026 fiscal year budget during July meetings.
The current fiscal year ends Sept. 30, and the court is discussing priorities for next year and beyond. Some of the top considerations are a new county jail, a cost-ofliving increase in pension payments for county retirees and structural repairs to some county properties.
A new jail will be a longterm project, County Judge Linda Grant said. Any work paid for in the new fiscal year would be for consulting work to come up with a plan, she said.
