Teague Senior News

Attendance was down somewhat last week, but we had a great time and enjoyed delicious lunches as always. Bingo was a highlight, thanks to our wonderful and energetic sponsor Brandi Rhodes from Accent Care. She not only called the game but also surprised us with an array of tempting prizes, including some delightful edible treats. Brandi has become part of our community, and her presence lights up the room. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our generous friends at the center who continue to make meaningful donations. It felt like Christmas in July! Special thanks to Debbie Tugwell for the large container of fragrant hand sanitizer, ranch and blue cheese dressings, mayonnaise, and cookies! Roy contributed beautifully decorated insulated tote bags for our special bingo and blackout gifts, while Peggy provided four large napkins for our dining room tables, delicious chocolate candy for bingo prizes, and everyone’s favorite, ginger snap cookies, for the morning group. Yes, it’s true—the morning group is spoiled! Sharon generously brought an assortment of strawberry and chocolate cookies, and Debbie Mc-Donald added extra napkins and Caesar salad dressing packages. We all know who Carl bought those donuts for...—the morning group again! It’s hard not to want to join them early, right? And let’s not forget Juanice, who brought in 2-liters of Root Beer and Coke, preparing us for root beer floats on July 30th to celebrate the end-of-month birthdays of Debbie Tugwell (July 4), Sonya Bibby (July 20), and Carol Biggar (July 23). Juanice is truly an asset to our center. She frequently shares special treats with everyone and often wins at bingo, drawings, and games. Remarkably, she doesn’t hesitate to share or even give away her winnings. Perhaps that’s why luck is always on her side! Thanks to Sonya and Sharon for organizing the bingo setup. Let’s all take a moment to pray for our men and women in the military, our country, and those who have recently lost loved ones. As we face triple- digit temperatures this week, remember to stay hydrated—both for yourselves and your pets and plants. I encourage everyone to stop by, enjoy lunch with us, and participate in bingo every Wednesday; it’s always a blast. This past Wednesday brought a personal challenge for me, as my sister’s husband underwent triple bypass surgery in Houston. Following the surgery, he experienced life-threatening complications, leading to emergency procedures on Sunday morning. Thankfully, through much prayer and the excellent care he’s receiving, he is now in a more stable condition. Just as I was receiving updates about his situation, Roger shared a powerful reminder: A pastor on television just then said, “When there is no hope, God shows up!” We are in urgent need of more drivers for Meals on Wheels. If you can help, please contact me at 254739-3541. It takes less than an hour, and you can train with someone on Route 1 or Route 2. This volunteer opportunity is incredibly rewarding, and you can set your schedule to fit your availability—whether once a week, once a month, or as needed. We have a driver out until October, and we could use your support. Have a wonderful rest of the week, stay cool, and take the time to make someone’s day a little better. Thank you, and God bless you all, Vonda Brooke “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
