Fairfield hosted the Mexia Blackcats in its first home game of the season on Friday, Sept. 6, and fell 37-23. Mexia boosted 28 seniors compared to Fairfield’s eight.

“Our guys played a good three quarters. We have to learn to finish games,” Head Coach John Bachtel said. “We only have eight seniors, but they are doing a good job of leading. The juniors are starting to figure it out as well. We are going to keep getting better each week because of our senior leadership.” Mexia’s Braden Wilson connected with Steven Milus on a 41-yard touchdown with 7 minutes, 51 seconds left on the clock in the first quarter to get on the board first. The extra point failed as the Blackcats took a 6-0 lead.

Fairfield worked its way down the field as Mexia’s defense forced the Eagles to kick a field goal. Kieran King’s field goal was good to cut the Blackcats lead in half, 6-3, with 3:57 left in the first quarter.
