Welcome high school football fans! Week 1 was a doocy wasn’t it? It was great to finally get the 2025 season underway, and it didn’t disappoint as there was plenty of great action going on last Friday night around the area. Now it’s time to move to Week 2!
Class 1A/Six-Man Coolidge Yellowjackets 121A/Six-Man DI (1-0) at Waco Methodist Children’s Home Bulldogs – Private (0-1) Bulldog Field in Waco 7:30 p.m.
Coolidge put a thumping on the Blum Bobcats, 63-18, to win their season opener. Devonta Johnson was 10 yards shy of breaking 300 yards rushing, finishing the night with 12 carries for 290 and scored six touchdowns in the blowout win. The Yellowjackets tallied 418 yards of total offense on the night, with Johnson accounting for 393 of them. Oh yeah. He also completed five passes on seven attempts for 103 yards and a TD. Did we mention he led the team in tackles with 13.5 (11 solo). Coby Brown was on the receiving end of the lone touchdown pass. Brown ended his night with two catches for 78 yards and the TD. Key players contributing for Coolidge Kobe Brown (8 tackles, 19 yards receiving), Kayden Garcia, Jaden Abor, and Brandon Barron. “It was great to open the season with a win,” said Coolidge’s head coach Thomas Tritz. “The guys came out with high tempo that really didn’t let down for the game. I thought we blocked very well when we were in tight sets. Our defensive line held the edges all night and that was something we’ve worked on improving throughout our first two scrimmages.”
