Lots of volleyball being played here at home, and abroad as the Groesbeck Lady Goats competed in the KSA high school invitational volleyball tournament in Hawaii over the weekend. The Goats improved to (15-11) on the season, going 3-3 in the tourney. The Lady Goats won against Scappoose Lady Indians (Oregon), 2512, 25-23; Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars, 25-14, 25--17; Lost to the Clifton Lady Cubs, 18-25, 25-27; Lost to the Bishop Amat Lady Lancers (California), 11-25, 18-25; Lost to the Azle Lady Hornets, 10-25, 16-25; and won against the Pearl City Lady Chargers (Hawaii), 2624, 25-17.
Next up for Groesbeck the team was scheduled to on Riesel on Tuesday at home, at 6 p.m., then Mildred (also at home) at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The Mexia Ladycats played in the China Spring Showcase over the weekend, but dropped their three matches to move to (2-9) on the season. Mexia was scheduled to play Rice on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., then host Fairfield next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Coolidge improved to (49) overall, after picking up wins against Hubbard and Texas Wind last week. The Lady Yellowjackets defeated Hubbard last Tuesday in five sets, 25-13, 22-25, 25-12, 26-28, 15-9. JV won their match against Hubbard, but JV2 lost to Texas Wind. On Friday, Coolidge beat Texas Wind in five sets, 2225, 25-20, 16-25, 25-15, 15-5. This week, the Lady Yellowjackets will be on the road. Tuesday, the team was scheduled to play at Avalon, and Friday, they’re scheduled to be in Oakwood. The Wortham Lady Bulldogs competed in the China Spring Showcase Friday and Saturday, plus they picked up a win against Valley Mills, sweeping the Lady Eagles in three, 25-19, 25-22, 25-11. The Lady Bulldogs JV swept Valley Mills, 25-22, 25-21. Accolades go to two Lady Bulldogs for making the CSS all-tournament team. The two players earning honors were JoJo Contreras and Ziah Betts.
