Another Correcton To Disinformation

Yes, George Washington was our first president – hardly news to anyone who’s ever handled a U.S. $1 bill. This opening of a Letter to the Editor last week in these pages is just about the sum total of fact it offered. The rest was, in my opinion, vacuous, political bunk: wholly or partially false and political propaganda couched in the usual poor attempt to exhibit good writing and sound logic. It failed on both counts, as usual. A sampling of erroneous positions: Intelligent loyalists in Washington’s era who were happy to remain British subjects to King George III. FACT: Most of the colonists were conforming Church of England members who professed belief [reinforced every Sunday at church] in the “divine right” of kings. They suffered equally under the unjust laws imposed on American colonists by Parliament ; they were not a happy lot.

Conservative Americans today are not brain-dead drones who long for a tyrant. FACT: They are far better educated than colonials but equally conscious of government encroachment on personal liberties. I am one, and we elected and support the President of the United States in his work. Contrary to the Letter in question, we do NOT aspire to a King George-type governance.

Trump bends judges to his will. FACT: The president emphatically does NOT make judges bend to his will. Liberal federal judges (mostly appointed for life by democrats) with jurisdiction over their designated districts, routinely issue nationwide rulings against the President’s decisions . The outcome of such nationwide injunctions is currently being tested in the U.S. Supreme Court. Hopefully Trump’s common sense executive orders will be upheld by the court. They are mostly overwhelmingly approved of by the American people.
