The Wortham Bulldogs head into their bye week fresh off an exhilarating victory Friday night, Sept. 13, at home.

Wortham topped the Leon Cougars by a final score of 20-18. The Bulldogs were protecting a 2012 lead when Leon capped off a scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run by Cotton Brigner with 16 seconds to go in the game. Trailing by two at that point, Leon decided to go for a two-point conversion with the hopes of sending the contest into overtime.

On the conversion attempt, Brigner ran with the football on a designed sweep to the left. As he leaped and attempted to score the game-tying conversion, he was met in the air by Wortham defensive back Kymani Johnson. Johnson knocked Brigner to the ground just short of the goal line to preserve the Bulldogs slim lead.
