This is Week 4 of the Texas High School football season, and boy did we see some exciting games happen across our area last week. Coolidge kept their perfect record going with a 60-14 Mercy Rule ending at home in Six-Man action. Groesbeck played on the road, and gave their fans plenty to be excited about as they crushed 42-19. Mexia Blackcats and Wortham Bulldogs gave it everything they had, but both came up a little short against their opponents. Here’s a look at this week’s football previews.
Teague Lions (2-1) 9-3A DI at Mexia Blackcats (0-3) 5-3A DI Blackcat Field in Mexia 7 p.m.
The Teague Lions enter Friday’s contest at (2-1), winning against the Ferris Yellowjackets last Friday night, 51-37, as Coach Zack Linscomb’s squad looks to add another this Friday against the Blackcats. Teague’s offense is led by RB Nyland Coaster. So far, this season, Coaster has 66 carries for 447 yards and six touchdowns. Blake Maggard is one of the key players steering the Lion’s defense. Maggard has amassed 25 tackles so far in the young season, with 16 of those solo tackles. Teammates Mario Cuevas (24 tackles, eight solo), and Braden Gauntt (23 tackles, 18 solo) join Maggard in helping to stop opposing runners. Teague’s secondary has recorded seven interceptions through three games.
