Dear Editor, It’s gratifying to have your newspaper print a corroborating letter (by El Sellers, 9/11/25) as followup to my letter about the MAGA supporters of King George. I made the point that the specifics of our founders’ objections to the tyranny of King George could be found in Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence; a list of ‘particulars’ of autocratic behavior our founders found intolerable, and are being repeated today.
The letter writer starts by admitting that many colonists DID wish to remain subjects of the Monarch (and admits perversely that they were not happy being under that ‘unjust’ rule). I pointed out that there are citizens today who long to return to that subservience, unhappiness and all.
The letter writer notes that not ALL judges are bending to Trump’s will, and “routinely issue nationwide rulings against the President’s decisions.” This shows us clearly that Sellers recognizes that, like King George, Trump considers himself above the law, and regularly violates our laws AND our Constitution. Sellers wants the check and balance of having a legal limit on the power of our President to disappear, to go away, and be replaced by the unfettered power of one man (yes, like King George).
