Joan Young G rounds
On Thursday September 11, 2025, Joan Young Grounds 84, quietly left this Earth and into our Heavenly Father’s arms. Joan was born on December 18, 1940, to her parents Tolbert Fannin Young III and Jo Iris (Atkinson) Young, in Teague, Texas at the old hospital. She grew up in the Young Community where she attended Fairfield Schools, graduating in 1959. There she gained many accomplishments including Homecoming Queen, Class Favorites, Rodeo Queen among others. On October 30, 1964, she married Elkhart native Osce Hillary Grounds. They resided in Fairfield and raised their two sons. She retired in 1998 from SESCO which became Oncor. After retiring she began sitting and caring for the elderly. She did this until she was no longer able.
She was preceded in death by her parents Tolbert Fannin Young III and Jo Iris Young, half-sister Diane, Husband O.H. Grounds, sister Billye Kay Orand, sisters-in-law Myrtle Stewart and Lynda Grounds, nephew Michael Orand, and brother-in-law Pete Grounds.
She is survived by son Stephen Grounds and wife Jayme of Fairfield, son Mark Grounds, brother-in-law Jimmy Orand of Florida, sister-in-law Barbara Grounds of BulVerde, grandchildren Michael Grounds, Ryan Grounds, Derek Grounds, and Katy Grounds. She is also survived by several cousins and kinfolks from the Young family, Grounds family, as well as many friends and classmates of 1959.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Teague Nursing Home and Solaris Hospice Care for their outstanding care of our loved one, Joan Elizabeth Young Grounds.Visitation was held on September 17th from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Fairfield with Graveside Funeral Services following at 12:15 p.m. at Fairfield Cemetery.
