Funeral services for Marvin Ray Brown, age 90, were held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Jason Schick and Bro. Richard Williams will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the services on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Mr. Brown passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at his residence in Teague. He was born in Cotton Gin on December 15, 1934, to Frank and Bertha Brown. Marvin was the youngest of eleven children. He attended Teague schools and was an outstanding athlete. Mr. Brown went to work for the Highway Department for two years before being drafted into the U. S. Army in 1957. He served two years active duty and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and received Sharpshooter Citation, then continued as a reserve until being honorably discharged in 1963. Marvin returned to work for the Texas Department of Transportation and completed a thirtyeight year career, retiring as Assistant Superintendent. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life. He killed his last whitetail buck just last season (2024). He was well known for growing watermelons, a Brown family tradition that he learned from his father and older brothers and had his own fruit stand in his front yard for eighteen years. He continued to raise watermelons and other fruits and vegetables until he was eighty-five years old. He grew up in a musical family and taught himself how to play the accordion. He also played the harmonica and was well known for his singing. Mr. Brown was a lifelong Christian and member of the Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon, then Elder, and was a song leader for over sixty years. Family was very important to Marvin and he dedicated his life to being involved in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s lives. He always tried to take care of his family’s physical and spiritual needs and prayed for them daily. He is survived by his wife of almost sixty-nine years, Ruth Brown; two daughters, Yvonne Griffin & husband David, and Lisa Brown McAdams; one son, Bobby Brown & wife Kelli all of Teague; six grandchildren, Michael Griffin & wife Sarah, Kevin Griffin, Justin Griffin & wife Shelby, Dillon McAdams & fiancé Brittnie, Macy Zwierzchowski & husband Justin, and Jenna Brown; fourteen greatgrandchildren, Hunter Griffin, James Griffin, Jesse Griffin, Dalton Griffin, Swayzie Griffin, Hunter Hurst, Brindin Hurst, Nate Hurst, Emily Hurst, Maddie Hurst, Riley Zwierzchowski, Kayley Merenda, Carter Merenda, and Foster Merenda; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including a special nephew, John Brown & wife Jo Ann. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Bertha Brown; one sonin- law, Johnny McAdams; his mother-in-law, Clarice Sikes; and his siblings, Howard Brown, Bessie McCaig, Judd Brown, Alice Lively, Joel Brown, Mona Cole, and Manley Brown.
