It is a season of change for the Freestone County Commissioners Court, with the retirement of seasoned County Judge Linda Grant effective at the end of the business day Tuesday, Sept. 15. During her final special meeting, she spent a few minutes reflecting on her tenure.
“We don’t always agree, and sometimes we STRONGLY don’t agree, but we have been able to consider all of the opinions,” Grant said. “Sometimes we don’t reach an agreement even after we try to talk it out, but we vote however we vote, we accept it, and when we walk out of here, we (remain) as friends and co-workers working together for the good of the county. I thank y’all so much for that and I think that citizens of Freestone County appreciate that we can disagree and express that for the good of the county.”
Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley said a few words thanking Grant for her service, and the common thread of respect, and ‘we didn’t always agree… but we worked through it together’ echoed by Commissioner Lloyd Lane, Pct. 3 and Commissioner Clyde Ridge Jr., Pct. 4 drew some laughs from the court and the audience.
