Last week, I shared how conservatives in Texas secured a landmark victory for women and girls with the passage of SB 8, the Texas Women’s Privacy Act. That was just the beginning. The special session delivered a number of important wins for Texas families and taxpayers.
One of the most significant was the passage of new congressional maps, which I proudly co-authored. These maps will give Texas five new Republican-majority congressional seats—five more strong conservative voices representing our state in Washington. These seats are game-changers for Texas and will ensure that our state’s values are better represented at the federal level.
Some have raised questions about redistricting during a mid-decade special session, but it’s important to note that this process is entirely legal and not without precedent. Texas last did so in 2003, and other states have also made adjustments when needed. Additionally, several of the previous districts had been flagged as unconstitutional under the Voting Rights Act and the 14th Amendment, making these new maps both fair and necessary.
