Fall is here for all to enjoy fishing

Fall has officially arrived as the calendar says Sunday, Sept. 22, was the first day of fall 2024! I used to say spring was my favorite Season, but as I’ve grown a little older, the cool and crisp fall days have more appeal now and it’s officially MY FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR!

Mother Nature adds to my enjoyment of the season as the leaves begin to turn magnificent colors. The waterfowl such as gulls, pelicans, osprey and even a few eagles migrate to the lake for the next few months, and the fishing is really, really good!

Catfishing is about as good as it gets most fall days and as the weather cools in October and November, the white bass and hybrid stripers go on one last feeding frenzy before the winter arrives. The last few years we’ve had our choice of fishing for either the catfish or whites and on many fall days did a little bit of fishing for both! Right now, the catfish bite is good and I’m hearing just a few reports of catches of whites. Each morning around 7, we make the boat ride up the Richland arm of the lake and fish the timbered creek channel in 15- to 25-foot of water. We’re catching both channel and blue cats, the action is steady and we always return to the marina with an ice chest of good eating aatfish.
