The 2025-26 Texas High School basketball season is nearing fastbreak mode, as several teams will be playing in tournaments after the Thanksgiving break. Meanwhile, the 2025-26 preseason rankings are out, and in Class 3A Boys poll, the Mexia Blackcats begin the season ranked at No. 5, while fellow Limestone County team, the Coolidge Yellowjackets are ranked No. 8 in Class 1A.
Last season, the Blackcats went 12-0 in district play, and 25-12 overall. The crimson and black made it to the third round of the 2024-25 UIL basketball playoffs, falling to Hitchcock by two, and finishing the season as a regional semifinalist. Top scorer, Kelan Collins (19.3 ppg) returns this season, along with a host of younger players. Many of whom earned a lot of experience at the varsity level. This should be an interesting season for the talented “Runnin’ Cats” basketball team, as they are picked to finished as the No. 2 seed in the district.
The Ladycats enter the 2025-26 season ready to make some noise, after finishing the 2024-25 year with an overall record of 15-9, and finished second in District 20-3A (9-3) behind eventual state champion Fairfield. Mexia will have six seniors this season, along with a good group coming off the bench. The Ladycats are picked to finish fourth in district this year.
