Only one high school football team left standing in the Bi-Stone coverage area, and that’s the Fairfield Eagles, who seem – at least for now – to be an unstoppable force.
The Eagles (11-0) – ranked No. 6 in the latest Texas High School Football polls that came out last week – blitzed the Anahauc Panthers, 62-21, in their bidistrict playoff game last Friday night at Berton A. Yates Stadium in Willis. Anahauc actually led early in the game, taking a 7-0 lead into the second quarter. But that’s about as good as it got for the now 3-8 Panthers. Fairfield came soaring back, scoring 21 by the end of the first half, 20 more in the third, and 21 points in the fourth quarter for the 41-point victory. QB Kohl Collins showed why he is definitely one of the top signal callers in the state, completing 17 passes on 23 attempts for 387 yards and five touchdowns. Collins passes were spread out among four receivers, Kavion Hicks (7-167-1), Connor Colvert (2-79-1), Tylan Davis (487-1), and Finn Smith (4-54-2). Kyden Rodriguez led the Eagles on the ground, carrying the ball 17 times for 143 yards and scor- ing four TDs. Kalil Appel, and Braylen McMillan led the Fairfield defense with 16 total tackles each. Fairfield moves to the Area round, where they will face the Yoakum Bulldogs (9-2) Friday night at 7 p.m., in Belton at Tiger Field.
In other games from District 9-3A DI, Region III, the Palestine Westwood Panthers escaped Navasota’s Rattler Stadium with a seven-point, 49-42 bi-district playoff win over the East Chambers Buccaneers last Friday night. The Panthers (9-2) advance to the Area round to face the Columbus Cardinals (9-2), Friday night at 7 p.m. in Caldwell, at Hornet Field. Crockett lost to Hardin 36-14, to push the Bulldogs from the rest of post season play. Orangefield defeated Diboll 2920, to knock the Lumberjacks from the playoffs.
