Freestone County Commissioners opened six sealed bids for the construction of the lower roof section for Annex III building at their regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Bidding companies were Tri-Lam, S&S Roofing, Steele Roofing, Roof Company of Waco, Streamline Roofing, and Prime Source Construction.
County Judge Lloyd Lane explained that three separate contractors identified hail damage on the roof while the bid process was ongoing, so the county is seeking inspection by Texas Association of Counties (TAC) but still waiting for scheduling confirmation. Discussion of known issues with the Annex III building followed, and consideration/comparison between the options and prices provided by each company. Commissioners tabled awarding the contract for roof construction of the Annex III building until TAC can inspect the roof.
On a separate matter, the courthouse restoration architect advised Lane that commissioners need to choose a contractor (or narrow it down from five to two options) for the restoration job, and to ask if they will honor their original bids despite the delay on project start. Commissioners opted to table the decision until they hear back from their top two choice contractors on updated numbers or agreement to honor original bids.
