Wortham High School proved once again that small schools can deliver big results, after both of its competition barbecue teams — Holy Smokers and Special Forces — turned in the strongest performances in program history at the 2025 Lancaster Regional over the weekend.
The WHS teams earned state qualification and brought home top finishes across every category, marking the highest placements the program has recorded to date. Their standout achievements included 1st and 3rd place brisket awards, Reserve Champion Team honors, and a 3rd Overall Team finish.
In addition to the hardware, every Wortham competitor received a scholarship voucher valued at either $1,500 or $2,000, underscoring the payoff of their months of practice and preparation.
