We hit last Monday running, and it turned out to be a wonderfully busy day, thanks to the efforts of many special people. Margaret’s granddaughter, 14-year-old Kynzi Cunningham, truly stepped up and saved the day. She was a great help wrapping silverware and opening up on Monday morning. She also assisted me with setting up the kitchen and preparing the ice cream for our Root Beer and Coke floats during the November birthday celebration after lunch. A big thank you to Barbara and Juanice for the delicious homemade vanilla ice cream and Coke and Root Beer. Kynzi not only made our floats, but served them to our guests in the dining room, receiving many compliments on her good manners, helpful attitude, and sweet personality. Her conduct was an obvious indication of how her parents raised such a wonderful young lady.
Jennifer led our group in an interesting game of Trĺivia. It’s amazing how much we don’t know. Afterwards, we had an exciting game of hot potato. The competition was hilarious. Willie Coaster was the winner of the Hot Potato Contest. He won a 5x7 rug of his choice from Withrow Furniture in Teague. Rachael Anderson sponsored a table full of excellent prizes for both Monday’s and Tuesday’s games/drawings We continued with part two of our Thanksgiving event with even more Trivia and, to say the least, an incredible dart game contest. Let me reassure you, we did not have real darts, the board was velcro, and the balls that we threw stuck well. Well honestly, not all of them; some of them went to the floor. Ha!
I certainly appreciate Debbie Tugwell, London Miller, and London’s husband delivering Meals on Wheels for us on Monday on such short notice. Had some unexpected rain, lots of lightning. Nevertheless, it didn’t dampen our spirits or the City’s Thanksgiving dinner. We all had a great time and to my surprise, none of us melted. Considering all the sweets that our morning group consumes, that’s amazing. I was thrilled to see one of our sweet young volunteers who has moved away, and definitely grown up, driving into the parking lot in the back of the center with her grandmother, Kit Praisil, and her youngest granddaughter Charliee not only delivered the lunches but also carried box lunches for them to have over the holidays when the center was closed. She not only helped her grandmother and volunteered for our Center on Tuesday. Charlie and her older sister, Shelby, volunteered to deliver meals once again on Wednesday. If that wasn’t enough, they volunteered and shared calling bingo for me. Thanks to Aurelia for setting up Bingo and assisting in Sonya’s place. Thanks to Debbie Tugwel, London Miller, and her husband for delivering the lunches last Monday. A big thank you to Debbie McDonald and Aurelia for their much-needed help in the dining room last week. Thanks to Roy for serving and waiting on our guests in the dining room during lunch. He does a great job.
