THOMAS RICHARD JONES

A memorial service with military honors by the United States Marine Corp. will be held for Thomas Richard Jones, age 76, on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at 11 am. at First Baptist Church, 209 N. 6th Avenue, Teague, Texas. Visitation will be an hour before the service beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Bro. Scott Matthews and Royce Heil will officiate. Tom passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at Novellus Cypresswood Assisted Living & Memory Care in Spring, Texas.

Tom was born Sept. 4, 1949, in Harrisonburg, Virginia to Thomas Preston and Dorothy Mitchell Jones. The eldest of 7 siblings, he grew up in Joppa, Maryland. In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. and received an honorable discharge in 1970 earning a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Tom moved to Teague in 1980 and started working at Nucor Steel in Jewett, with his brother-in-law and retired in 2015, as a crane operator. After retirement he enjoyed camping and traveling with his family.

In 2012, Tom and Rhonda joined the Christian Motorcycle Association where they enjoyed being members of the Redeemed Riders Chapter of Palestine, Texas. As a member CMA, Tom, visited the local nursing homes. Tom was also a member of the East Texas Patriot Guard Riders. Tom married Rhonda Port on Nov. 24, 1990 and soon after became a member of First Baptist Church. On Jan. 12, 1993, they welcomed their son, Nathan Thomas Jones.

Tom will be missed and remembered for his huge smile, hugs and sense of humor.

Tom is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rhonda; son, Nathan Jones of Teague; daughter, Tara Jones of Maryland; son, Shane Port & wife Jennifer of Spring; sisters, Bonnie Romeo & husband Nick and Betty Shaw & husband Jimmy, all of Buffalo, Tinker Hirsch of Maryland, and Toni Schneider & husband John of Maryland; brothers, Jimmy Jones of Indiana, and Jerry Jones & wife Karen of Donie; grandchildren, Zach Port & wife Amber, Autum Johnson & husband Ryan, and Michael Bancroft; numerous nieces and nephews.
